Tips - Jogging with your baby

Seven tips on running with a jogging stroller

1. Get the right equipment for jogging with your baby

Running by yourself is easy – all you need is a pair of shoes! But when it comes to jogging with your baby, you need specialized equipment. A jogging stroller is made for speed and safety, whether you prefer a high-performance model for more serious runners or a more maneuverable all-rounder to suit urban environments.

2. You can use a jogging stroller from six months

When can you start running with your baby? Most experts agree that you should wait until the baby is at least six months old. The reason for this is that most babies can’t hold their head up until that age. Naturally, you can get your jogging stroller and start using it from birth – just stick to walking the first six months!

3. Safety first with safe jogging strollers

Don’t settle for anything less than the highest standards when it comes to design, flexibility, safety, and quality. Jogging with a baby in the outdoors is something completely different than strolling on city streets – and your jogging stroller should be up to the task. Look for features such as a 5-point safety harness and an integrated hand brake.

4. Time it right for a happy baby

Timing is everything. Think of it as a simple equation: happy mom + happy baby = a great run. Of course, it is easier said than done! But be sure to prepare, and be sure to have a flexible mindset. With younger children, you may have to adjust your plans depending on their mood. With toddlers, try to involve them in the run. But remember: bring water, snacks, diapers and all you can think of. You will need it!

5. Check the weather before jogging with your baby

Remember your little passenger! Make sure that it’s not too hot or too cold in the stroller. A multi-position canopy adds protection – be sure to find one with a clear roof port to see your child.

6. Explore your surroundings with an all terrain stroller

Make your run an adventure and find new paths! A jogging stroller with large wheels and suspension make for a comfortable ride for your child. This means longer and faster runs for you – and a better time for your child!

7. How should I run with a jogging stroller?

First of all: be flexible. Accept that any run is a good run, and that your plans most likely will change. It may not be the five-mile run you had in mind – but a two-miler is way better than nothing, right? Secondly: take it easy in the beginning. You will need some time to get used to a different stride. Even a lightweight jogging stroller can be a challenge to push up a hill!
