Ok if you have a light kayak

The tightening mechanism is not super secure, at least on the square bar. This device would be much better with a bottom support that keeps it from rotating on its side. Not impressed with Thules "tooless" racks.

Beware if you have a Thule square bar

3

Although the manual and web site state that this will work with the Thule square bar it really is a flimsy attachment. With the clamps tightened dow as far as possible the unit will easily move around the bar. I put my kayak up and while trying to center the load I notcied both Hull-a-port XT units moved around the bar and were leaning to one side almost down to the roof. On furher investigation I found that it takes very little force to cause this to occur. I also found that the clamp was tightened as far as possible so there was no way to tighten any more. I am not comfortable with racks that move around. It works fine on the Evo and aero bars unfortunately not with the square bar. Called Thule and I was told they never heard of this problem however I found several reviews online describing the same issue.

Notched strap-guide in new design is ANNOYING

3

Others have written about this new design. The old design, with a strap-guide on top of the rack, cloth resting pad and strap-excess storage pocket -- was much better, but the cloth wears out after a few years of salt-water. The new design "looks" sleeker, but you can't stuff the excess strapping anywhere, and the strap falls out of the notched guide. I wish I'd tried to find an older model. This is not an improvement. I would recommend finding an older model or something that will hold the strap in place on the rack when you put it up. I hope that Thule creates something to plug that notch, so that the strap doesn't fall out. I will write them separately about this.
