Alaska Tough

I used these panniers for over six months in the Alaska Panhandle, and I can attest, they are rock solid. On almost a daily basis, maybe five hundred or so miles. I rode in rain, sometimes snow, and the Taku winds, and these panniers held up remarkably. Never did anything get wet, or damaged. They still look exactly the same as they did new. I highly recommend. Note: they work best with the Thule Rack, which is also awesome.

200 mile bike ride

I absolutely LOVED using these for my recent bike first Century Ride! They held up great and were much better than carrying a back pack. I even rode in the rain. Nothing got wet! I would definitely recommend these to anyone serious about riding.

Dangerous product, terrible customer service

I bought the shield panniers and the Thule tour rack. I went to get groceries, loaded one bag with 16 pounds, and was biking home, when the bag came partially detached, yanking the back of the bike unexpectedly into the road, then dropping off and slowly sliding to a stop in the middle of the road. This was not only highly hazardous for me and traffic, but also scraped up the pannier and scraped off the attachment mechanism for the bag. I did not see any reference to the maximum load for one of these bags, but assumed that any large touring pannier would be able to easily handle 16 pounds. I reattached the bag, and it fell off again before I could ride the 0.5 mile from the grocery store to my house. The rack was the Thule brand rack, and was firmly attached to the bike, and I made sure the bag was clicked securely into place both times I put it on. If these bags can fall off with only 16 pounds and the bumps from a smooth road, I certainly would not trust them on a tour.
