Pushing boundaries. Setting new standards.

Safety is our top priority at Thule. All our products are engineered to handle the toughest conditions and are meticulously tested at the Thule Test Center™ in Hillerstorp, Sweden. Operating globally means meeting a vast number of international and regional standards. At Thule, we ensure that our products far exceed those standards to bear the Thule logo.

Testing bike trailers at Thule

With their multi-use design, our bike trailers undergo rigorous testing as both a trailer and a stroller. They are carefully engineered to carry our most precious passengers as well as cargo. This puts focus not only on durability and safety, but on comfort as well. Our tests are designed to simulate the toughest conditions over long periods of use to examine every aspect of the products. This includes our own "Thule standards" that far exceed the recommended standards.

Environmental testing

To ensure both passengers and cargo stay safe and comfortable on every journey, we expose our bike trailers to extreme environmental conditions. From desert heat to arctic cold, heavy rain to searing drought, both fabrics and components are tested for durability and their ability to withstand the elements.

Durability tests

In everyday use, bike trailers encounter a wide variety of settings, both when connected to a bike and when used as a stroller. At the Thule Test Center™, we expose the product to irregular surfaces for both use cases. This ensures that the trailer maintains balance, withstands wear and tear across different types of terrain, and keeps the coupling with the bicycle securely in place. These tests are designed to simulate accumulated usage over the product’s whole life cycle in extreme environments, ensuring they withstand the test of time.

Impact tests

These tests use dynamic forces to simulate the kinds of impacts that might be encountered during product use. Crash tests and drop tests ensure that the trailer cage is robustly constructed and that harnesses and clamps hold passengers and cargo securely in place.

Real-world settings

In addition to our lab tests, we also conduct user testing in real-world outdoor settings. We know our small, curious passengers love to move around and explore, so the inside of the trailer must be both safe and comfortable, reducing the risk of getting stuck, scratched, or pinched. We also thoroughly test accessibility and stability to ensure comfort and security when getting in and out of the trailer.

Tested for your peace of mind

Testing isn’t only about making sure that the product doesn’t break or that the fabric withstands different climate conditions. In the end, it’s about building confidence and trust in the product you use, so you can focus on the experience, knowing that we have taken care of safety.
