The best bike roads - find your next adventure!

The roads are waiting, your bike is ready – time to get going! Here are a few practical tips to get you started.

Find a way to transport your bike
If you are travelling by car, a bike rack is a great way to bring your bike. Depending on your needs, there are roof mounted bike racks and trunk bike racks for two, three and even four bikes. When flying, the safest and easiest way is to use a bike travel case.

Pack right for your bike road trip
Depending on the length of your day trips, you may need to bring a number of things for safety and comfort. Food, water, a repair kit, and a change of clothes could all be handy to have around on a long day! Use a backpack if you travel light, otherwise a pannier is a great way to carry a lot of weight.

Get yourself to a great location
There are so many to choose from! Here are six great routes around the world.

Col de la Madone loop

When on the French Riviera, skip the glamour and the Ferraris for a while. Ride out of Nice and go up one of the world’s greatest roads, the Grande Corniche.

New York Gran Fondo

Yes, it is technically a race that takes place once a year. But the roads are there all year, so for something different, try this great tour where nature is so much closer to the big city than expected.

Shimanami Kaido Cycling Road

This popular route is a great option if you need to rent a bike – there are 14 rent-cycle terminals in various locations along the way. It links Honshu with Shikoku with a number of bridges, all with spectacular views of islands and the sea.

Baltic Coast Cycle Route

You are never far from the sea on this route along the Baltic coast. Be prepared for sandy beaches, rugged cliffs and cute maritime towns – and, most likely, some brisk winds.

Alto de Arrate

Once you have tried all things culinary in San Sebastian, head out and ride the Alto de Arrate. This two-mile climb appears frequently in the Vuelta a España. If they can do it, you can do it, right?

Großglockner Hochalpenstrasse

Up for a challenge? Try climbing 1750 m on this scenic route nor far from Zell am See. The way down is most likely easier – just don’t forget to check your brakes!
