My bike adventure with Xavier De Le Rue

Champion snowboarder Xavier De Le Rue shares his favorite spots to go mountain biking with his family in Switzerland.

“At the moment, my favorite adventures on a bike are with my daughter and my wife. Biking with our child is the best way for us all to be adventuring together and to share a cool moment wherever we are. What kind of biking is it, then? I would say that most of the time we use e-mountain bikes, so that we can stay away from tarmac and ride on any kind of terrain, away from civilization.

I really like the fact that anywhere we go, there is always a nice little trail or something special to be discovered along the way. It doesn’t have to be a grand mission to find great things! We actually live with the bikes in the back of our van. That way, we can go on a little adventure and explore the place we are in, anywhere we go.

We live in Verbier, Switzerland. The adventure we love the most in the area is when we leave Verbier on the Route du Soleil, going towards the Fionnay dam at the end of the valley. Then we take a small road that leads us to the Cabane Brunet at the base of the Glacier de Corbassiere. The ride there takes us around an hour and a half.

When we get up there, it is a great spot to wander around, to see the mega bridge above the Corbassiere canyon, and then go back to the Cabane and enjoy hot fondue.

This adventure doesn’t have any special performance associated to it, but to me it really resonates with the idea of a great and peaceful day with the family.”
