Pushing boundaries. Setting new standards.

Safety is at the core of every product at Thule. Beyond meeting recommended safety standards, we challenge our products with extensive testing that simulates years of everyday use. Through extreme laboratory tests at the Thule Test Center™ in Hillerstorp, Sweden and real-world evaluations, we work hard to build confidence and deliver products that are safe and secure for your peace of mind.

Testing Thule child bike seats

Thule child bike seats undergo rigorous testing to ensure safe and reliable transportation on every ride. From secure harnesses and foot restraints to mounting systems and weather-resistant materials, we assess every possible detail. By simulating the product’s entire life cycle, we can verify that it continues to perform safely and reliably over time.

Keeping passengers secure

A child bike seat's primary purpose is to keep passengers safely positioned and secure during the ride. With that in mind, we focus extra attention on testing parts such as harness systems, buckles, and attachment points. All components go through rigorous testing, including 360° rotation and pull tests, to ensure everything stays in place and can handle weight and pressure.

We know that children rarely sit still and are naturally curious about their surroundings. Therefore, we also ensure that the child bike seat provides a safe environment, free from pinch points and other potential hazards. This also means making sure there are no loose parts that can come off and, of course, that buckles won’t open by accident.

Dynamic tests

Cycling exposes equipment to constant vibration, uneven surfaces, curbs, and unexpected impacts. Our multi-axis shaking table tests expose seats to vibrations that simulate years of cycling. These tests help verify consistent performance after repeated movement and load, while ensuring that mounting brackets remain securely positioned on the bike frame or rack.

Environmental testing

We know that our child bike seats often stay on the bike outside and are exposed to all kinds of weather and climates. This needs to be reflected in the durability of the materials in our products. We put our child bike seats through extreme cold, heat, rain, and corrosion testing to ensure they maintain their performance in all conditions. Materials are also evaluated for their resistance to long-term exposure to sunlight, helping ensure that they maintain their performance throughout the product’s lifetime. We also conduct drop tests at different temperatures to ensure that the seats remain reliable in a wide range of climates.

Testing for everyday situations

In addition to comprehensive laboratory testing, we evaluate our child bike seats in real-world riding conditions with test users. These evaluations help us understand how products perform during everyday use and provide valuable feedback on comfort, ease of use, and overall functionality.

Through repeated use, we assess aspects such as seat installation, harness adjustments, buckle operation, and footrest durability. This helps ensure our child bike seats are intuitive for parents and comfortable for children, while performing reliably ride after ride.

Certified for confidence

Through our Thule Test Program™, we challenge products beyond standard requirements to help ensure long-lasting performance and reliability. In addition, our child bike seats are independently evaluated to ensure compliance with relevant international safety standards. Third-party certifications provide an additional layer of verification, confirming that our products meet strict safety requirements. Our child bike seats are GS-certified by TÜV, demonstrating compliance with stringent independent safety requirements. Every test we conduct serves the purpose of giving parents confidence that their child is traveling in a safe, convenient, and reliable seat.
