my first carrier, & it could be improved

Comments about Thule Sidekick 682:
I like this carrier, but it leaked a little bit in the rain on the highway. It looked like it was coming in at the rivets on the front mechanism that holds the lid open. I replaced the rivets and the screws with stainless screws, put small o-rings under the screw heads and a rubber gasket under the inside bracket plate. On the 2nd trip, I didn't see the leak. Seems like Thule needs to pay more attention to the details.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Sidekick good for camping ....
By Karl the campers
from Everett, WA
About Me Intermediate
I loved this product for hauling camping gear. The lock mechanism is the weakest part as I have already had one key break off in the lock. If Thule made the keys out of sturdier material this would make the Sidekick be superior. It was very easy to install on my vehicle and worked great. Also great that the box was able to work perfectly with a bike rack and my Subaru outback. I would recommend this to others minus the poor locks.

Decent for the price but not perfect
from Piscataway, NJ
About Me Casual/ Recreational
We use it for camping and our annual trips to Canada. It holds a good amount of stuff and is pretty stable. The only issue I have is that it is not waterproof. I found that rain and salt is able to sneak in around the opening.
