Comments about Thule 699 Round Trip Bike Travel Case 699:
Some airlines charge as a bike and not just a large suitcase creating a higher fee. I could not use it in one instance because it would have cost $200.00 each way to take on the plane. It should have not been that much since it is pretty sleek and represents just a large suitcase. My son used the carrier on another airline taking a similar international route, and was only charged my $100.00 extra each way.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The Skies Need to be Friendlier

This case has served me well on the few road trips that I've taken. I don't use a rack but it has fit in every rental SUV that I've used. The handles are well placed so that it isn't too difficult to carry a short distance and the wheels make it easy to walk further.United Airlines charges fees ranging from [$] upward to ship a bike with this case. Although this is the best case for bringing a bike on a plane with you, I don't use it for traveling to triathlons. For a race that requires a plane trip, it has been much easier, safer for the bike, and less expensive to use a triathlon bike transport service.I'd strongly recommend that Thule join bikers in their efforts to get airlines like United to waive their bike fee. If an airline can transport bulky, clumsy bags of golf clubs without charging a fee, they shouldn't have a problem transporting a standard-size bike case which is lighter than a bag of golf clubs.I would recommend this case to my friends (who also fly frequently to races and bring their bikes on vacation) if it were practical for them to travel with it. Until these fees are addressed, it just isn't a practical or cost-effective solution.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
