First of all, I like this box. It's the right size for us the use on road trips and not have the car filled to the roof inside. When assembling, I was a little worried about the hinge bolts in the upper shell pulling through, so I made small aluminum plates (see photo) to go on the outside to prevent pull-through. The plate on the front I made large enough to add a GoPro mount to quickly attach my camera for filming while driving through interesting scenery. On the inside, I glued foam rubber donuts over the protruding rivets and hardware that look like they could cut into luggage placed inside. Locking the box can be problematic as it can seem to be secured when it is not. As a added security precaution, I run a lashing strap around the box from front to back just for piece of mind. Also, the dust covers in the key slots sometimes get out of alignment preventing the key from going in, requiring some wiggling of the key to get it to insert. I glued a metal washer inside the lid where I can attach a small LED light with a magnet for accessing items after dark. Overall, we are happy with this box with the improvements I have made. It has been through some pretty rugged weather on road trips all around the country and has held up perfectly.
It took awhile to assemble but there were no problems. My Craftsman SAE/Metric tools were all I needed. You have to be careful installing the water seal but once done it works perfectly. We go to Florida each winter for 2 1/2 months and it stays on the car the whole time and we have never had a water problem even with the severe rain storms we get down there. We have had it 3 years now and it has been out in the weather 7 1/2 months without issue. We carry two sets of golf clubs in the box. I carry a small folding step stool to load and unload the clubs.
Rob the golfer.
Needs a lock on the nose end of the carrier. Hit wind in North Dakota and the top flew open even though it was licked. A front lock/latch may have prevented this from happening.
