Does not extend far enough beyond back of auto to be of use. Hard to extend. Prohibits back door from rising up all the way. Roller scratches the back hatch of the Lexus SUV RX350 and most SUV with rising back hatch. Attachments to crossbar can only be adjusted so it sits closer to front of car to prevent roller scratching back hatch as the connectors on the frame are fixed. The rack is ok on SUVs whose back doors (hatches) open horizontally out, not vertically up.

Resolved My Challenge

i am 5' tall and loading my kayak on my SUP Taxi worked well and it was very secure, but when my car was scratched loading my boat, I knew it wasn't going to be an OK solution for me. The Slipstream is a very creative solution to getting the kayak on the car without coming in contact with the car. I have no problem loading and unloading the kayak by myself (with a ladder) - my kayak is 44 pounds and 15'. Getting everything configured was time consuming, but once set it's good for my boat without any continued adjustments. I didn't give the Slipstream 5 stars because Thule set very high expectations with the SUP Taxi design and I am disappointed with the crossbar attachment on the Slipstream.. bolts and wingnuts .. yesh.. so much work. I have no idea why the very efficient attachment straps on the SUP Taxi weren't used on the Slipstream. The other disappoint is no ability to lock the rack on the car.. WHY NOT?? This rack has a hefty price tag, I would like to have a sense that when I return from a paddle the rack will still be on the car.

Great design, works well for my purposes.

Great rack, makes lifting my trident 13 fishing kayak up onto the canopy of my truck a breeze. Before this I was struggling to get it up there. It's pretty heavy. May not work for all vehicles but for my purposes works fantastically. Take your time when installing, fidget with it and adjust to best position for your vehicle type/shape. Ties down easily & stays secure in transport. Overall happy with the solution. I would recommend and am planning on buying a second one for my wife's kayak.
