Thule Sonic Alpine 633
By Love to ski
from Glacier Park, Montana
I have had my Sonic for about a month and carry mostly skis...lots of skis. I love the aerodynamic, sleek design and it has held up OK in high winds of up to 60 mph gusts. I live in a wind prone area with steady winds of 30-40 mph common and 70 mph gusts occasionally. My only issue is with the mounting system. At first I thought this is great. An internal mounting system not having to deal with snow and ice on the knobs, however... the inside knobs that tighten the clamps are very high profile and very large possibly limiting the type of cargo that can be accommodated. Also, after only 1 month of use I managed to pop off one of the internal knobs (perhaps unloading skis). Also, the contact area between the clamps and the roof rack bars is very skinny and I will be padding mine with some tough carpeting to try and get more friction between the metal clamps and the roof rack bars. Next time I would pay more attention to the mounting system.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Thule Sonic M:
Just drove through big rain. 4 -20 C Sleeping bags 4 pillows and some sweaters in this unit (634 B) all stayed bone dry, not a drop of water. Small Unit for smaller vehicle, but you can still pile in a lot of stuff.
