Comments about 594XT Sidearm:
Use for additional bike carrying capacity when T2 is full. Doesn't come with a lock. Purchase separately.

Great product, put a brand new bike on it and felt confident it would be safe. Only con is it is hard to put on a mid-sized SUV if you are shorter than 6 foot.
High Thule Quality as always!

Great build quality & ease of use. Can be modified to work with fat bikes but purpose built rack or adapter would be nice

This is a great upgrade to the front fork clamp trays I have been using for years...At first i thought that I might not like it but the more I use it the more I like not having to remove the front muddy wheel and put it in the inside of the vehicle.

Awesome design for my honda CR-V
from Augusta GA
What's great about it? I was in need of a good roof rack to carry my carbon fiber road bike and looking at other brands and Thule I was in equal preference until I tried both on my 2007 Honda CR-V. The other brands racks I tried were too long and once mounted it did not allowed the hatch to be fully open without hitting the rack. The Thule sidearm design with a forward shifted center of gravity in reference to the roof bars allowed the bike to be mounted with no problem and with enough space to fully open the hatch door. What's not great about it? every time I take the bike with me somewhere in the way I have to stop to re-adjust the front wheel tension, it does not matter how secure I do it at the begging of the trip something makes the front wheel pull off the rack just enough to make it uncomfortably unstable. I had even contemplated the idea of buying an additional wheel strap to make sure the front tire stays in place. If Thule adds the strap from factory that would be a great plus, other than that is perfect.

Great Stability, lacks rustproofing

I'll start off with saying that I find the 594xt easy to assemble and also very simple to install on to the rack. Placing the bike on to the rack is even simpler, but I can see some people having trouble as I use mine on a sedan so the height isn't an issue for me. The first impression of quality upon opening the box is what you would expect for an item in it's price range. Nice aluminum tray, paint coated assembly, etc. Typical Thule quality. My opinion about quality started to change once I've used it a couple times. I don't necessarily leave the bike tray on the roof rake when not in use but even then I see that many metal parts are starting to rust already except the aluminum tray. The pivot area of the arm and the strap that holds down the back wheel, all have rust on them already. I like to point out that I do use it on some misty mornings and that is why it is rusted. Still that is no excuse for the product to not have some weather resistant qualities as it is an outdoor product and people do use it in inclement weather.

I bought this system to first transport a bike on a 20-hour drive, then for small trips around town. The system is kind of a pain to install, but not difficult. Once installed, it's incredibly easy to use. You can have a biked mounted, locked in, unlocked and back on the ground in about 20 seconds. The performed very well on the long road trip, and what's better is that you don't have to remove the front tire on the short trips. It's a very attractive system, and I recommend it to anyone who inquires about it.
