      Comments about Thule Echelon 518:

This would be a much better product had Thule designed the endcap to fit properly. I'm onto my 3rd endcap and tire hold-down now because it fits so poorly that it flies off when you drive on the highway. Loss of the endcap allows wind to push the tire hold-down off the track so you lose it as well. Thule needs to re-design this product a bit. Maybe a built in tire hold down and end cap or something. Going to have to rig the next one so it doesn't fly off or something.

Not safe with round Yakima Bars

        Comments about Thule Echelon 518:

Used this rack for a year. Very easy to get bikes on and off. I have mountain and road bikes. Looks great on the car.
After I first installed it with my Yakima round crossbars, I noticed that the back of the attachment plate tilts down when I tightened the front screws. This brings the small tab the should be sliding into the head back and halfway out of the head. After a while, I could see stress marks on the small tabs. (I also took it to a shop to make sure I installed it correctly). In my opinion, this product should not be used with round Yakima bars. I read other reviews of the Echelon failing because of this.
I returned the Echelon and bought the Peloton that has a better attachment mechanism.
